Friends, I seriously cannot tell you what pet therapy dogs mean to me and to anyone who is going through a hard time at the hospital. They have this incredible power to lift our spirits and change an awful day into a time of laughter and joy.
Dogs have been such a great joy and comfort to me throughout this process. In fact, when my hematologist saw me for the first time after I was released from the hospital she said, "Do you still have Britta and Coleman?" She's known me since I was 12 years old with my first black lab, Cricket. She knew what comfort and joy my pets, my furry loves, bring to me, especially in a crisis. She knew that blood clots aside, we can get through nearly anything with those we love close by.
When I'm in bed, Coleman brings the sunlight and fresh air in to me on his skin. Britta smiles and dances and makes me laugh and reminds me that none of this is all that serious. Life, our pains and struggles, just isn't that serious. There is always happiness, laughter, light, and love to be found in the darkest places, in our darkest hours.
I hope that you find laughter and light in your day today and always. And if you're considering certifying your furry friend as a therapy dog or pet partner, I wish you the best of luck! It means everything to those of us in need.
Lots of Love,
